In addition to helping improve the lives of kids in our area, the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade have interesting guests at our weekly lunch meetings.This week we had Marianna Niero, communications manager at one of the country’s leading animal rescue organizations, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (Pelicanharbor.org) in Miami.This amazing organization rescued 2,476 wild animals in 2024, comprised of birds (including, of course, pelicans) and small mammals such as opossums and squirrels.While our goal is helping kids in our community, we also like to hear about other community-oriented organizations like PHSS and see how they are making our world a better place to live.In addition to her terrific presentation, Marianna bought a guest with her, a rescued screech owl named Mowgli. He sat there very quietly looking at this strange food (what, no mice, worms?) these Kiwanians were eating, lol.#KidsNeedKiwanis
Had a fantastic luncheon today at Portofino’s with two incredible leaders: Mr. Kelvin Justice Jr., Head Coach of the Homestead ‘Squadron Lacrosse Club,’ and Mr. José F. Herrera. Their commitment to uplifting and inspiring our community is truly remarkable. Grateful for the opportunity to connect and collaborate with such passionate individuals! 🤝
